Sometimes hair loss happens due to intake of medication for diseases like cancer. Hair loss is of various types. Here we will look at the main ones:
The first and foremost is Alopecia areata. This is a hair loss occurring in patches from the scalp. It causes bald spots on scalp. This disease happens in part of the scalp and gradually spread to the whole scalp or other parts of the body. 0.1% to 0.2% of the population approximately suffers of this disease. It happens mostly in women. It can happen in people who have no skin diseases otherwise. It starts mostly during the late teenage period, early childhood, or early adulthood. It is not contagious. It is generally found people who have close relative suffering of this hair loss ailment. Experts believe that hereditary factor can be responsible for it to some extent. The symptoms are small, soft, bald patches. There could be tingling and paining sensation in those parts.
Alopecia totalis. This is total hair loss of the scalp. Experts are not sure about the cause of this kind of hair loss. Some believe stress could be a responsible factor. The total hair loss could be sudden or gradual. In case of gradual hair loss it can be caused by Alopecia areata. Children and adults under 40 mostly suffer of it. However it can affect people of any age ranges. An important symptom of this disease is that the nails of the suffering person may turn ridged and brittle.
